State Fair!

Today we spent a couple of hours checking out the Texas State Fair. It was a perfect balmy 74 degrees and we enjoyed walking around.

Big Tex
We followed tradition for lunch and Matt got a turkey leg and I got a corney dog. The fair is famous for it's fried food and each year contestants submit new creations.  We tried one of this year's finalists-The Bluebonnet. A deep-fried, cream filled, blueberry muffin top. Owen got a little taste too.

Owen's favorite part was the petting zoo. So cute to watch him tentatively reach out and then giggle when he touched their fur.

Owen got goat-o bombed!

Owen-12 months

Little man is 1! He would not stop wiggling when we were trying to take his picture.

Stats:
Height: 31.25in-- 95th percentile
Weight: 22lbs 8 oz-- 60th percentile
Head circumference: 48 cm--95th percentile

This has been a big month for Owen. He is a walker! It's been fun, but a challenge.  Our kitchen is baby-proofed, but we've been learning about other things we need to do! Rule number 1: keep the lid to the toilet closed at all times! Haha.

He loves reading.  He will bring a book to me and just sit on my lap. I walked in to see him like this one day. So cute!
He loves walking with daddy.  When Matt gets home from work, they get the mail together.
He says mom, dada,no, uh-oh, and up. He also does lion, elephant, and monkey noises. He's a sweet boy who loves to give hugs and kisses. For his actual birthday, he spent the day with mommy. We played with toys, went to the park, and had his favorite food (spaghetti) for dinner. I think he liked it even more than his actual party anyway.

He loves to stack things

I love how serious he gets when he plays. He's so focused!
I love how "little boy" this is-camo and the truck

Owen's Birthday Party

Just a warning-this post is a little picture heavy! We celebrated Owen's birthday a few days early this weekend. Owen's favorite book is The Little Blue Truck-a cute little book about a farm truck so we used that for our theme.

I made a farm cake, it was super easy, although a bit time consuming.

We had some farm-themed food as well including: pigs in blankets, hay bales (rice crispies), farm fresh produce, chicken feed (candy corn), spare tires (oreos), and some shovels and pitchforks to eat it with.

We had a table with some activities for kids--farm animal balloons and farm sticker scenes.

Grilling up some "farm dogs" outside
Grandma doing stickers with cousins Livy and Blake
Some favors- "Thanks for hangin' with us" farm animals

Cake time!

He was a bit timid at first, but then he dug right in. I'm not sure how much he actually ate, but he had fun smearing it all around!

We opened presents next. I think Owen was a bit overwhelmed by all the little helpers :)

Lots of fun gifts, but the highlight was Owen's very own little blue truck from Grumps and Grandma Phillippi!

This picture cracks me up!
He loves pushing it around the house!

Owen and all his Texan cousins. Thanks for coming!
