Baby Blessing

Lydia was blessed last week in our ward in Euless. A big thank you to everyone who came.  Lydia wore the Phillippi family dress--her aunts and most of her (girl) cousins were blessed in it.

Lydia's face cracks me up!

One of the things that stood out to me in her blessing was that she would be blessed to be a light to those around her.  She already has been a little light in our lives.

We came back to the house for lunch.  Owen found a kindred spirit in his love for Daniel Tiger. I thought they were really cute watching it together.

Lydia-1 month

Stats (at two weeks):
Height: 21 1/4 in
Weight: 8lbs 6oz
Head: 14 3/4 inches

This month has just flown by! Lydia is the sweetest little girl and has been a really good baby. She has started to have some problems with eating. At first it was a little bit of fussiness after feedings, but has gotten worse and worse.  Lately she has been screaming after just a few minutes of eating. The doctor thinks she has reflux, so we are starting a new medication this week.  It seems to be helping so far! She has been gaining weight and is up to 10 pounds now. Other than that, she has been very sweet and snuggly.  Owen has been a very affectionate big brother. And Lydia has been pretty tolerant of his love. ;)

Sweet baby snuggles

We've been lucky to have so much family here helping out all month

 Father of two level: Expert

Although adjusting to a family of 4 has had it's challenges, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have felt very strongly that she was meant to be part of our family.  We love her so much!

I think Owen needed some attention while I was feeding Lydia.  Driving his cars on my nursing pillow.

Welcome Baby Lydia!

Grandma Sumsion flew to sunny Texas to help take care of Owen and be ready for whenever baby Lydia decided to make her debut. I had to be induced with Owen, and had an induction date scheduled for 41 weeks this time too.  I was pretty sure I would go all the way to it again this time.
Taken on July 2nd (my due date)
We tried to do plenty to keep busy in the mean time. The theme of the week was planes, trains, and automobiles--including watching airplanes at the park and a ride on the grapevine vintage railroad.

Can't you tell how excited Owen is to ride the train? Haha

On July 4th, I woke up at 3:30am feeling a mild contraction. I  tried to ignore it and went back to sleep. I had another one 20 min later.  They gradually got closer and closer. By 5am I decided I wouldn't be able to sleep anymore so I got up, showered, dried my hair, and got all ready to go. By 7 am the contractions were about 5 min apart and we headed to the hospital!

It took a little bit of time to get signed in and changed.  When they checked me I was dilated to a 6--Yay! This meant this baby was really coming! From there, everything happened very quickly.  I asked for an epidural when I got there and they were able to give it to me around  9. At that point, I had progressed to an 8 and they told me it wouldn't be long.  Lydia was born at 10:35 after only 10 minutes of pushing. There was some meconium staining, so the nicu team had to suction her airway right after she was born, but fortunately she didn't have any complications.

Welcome baby girl!

Later that day, grandma brought Owen over to meet his new sister.

Three generations

Owen got to open a present from the baby, a new train set, at the hospital.

And back home again the next day!
